Error 6 on ipod touch?

I updated my ipod touch and it crashed it. It worked perfectly fine before but now it won't even turn on :( I tried restoring it but just as the little bar on my ipod touch below the apple icon gets to the very end, it says error 6 and won't work. I read something about DFU mode but it always just goes straight to recovery mode when I plug it in. I got the upgrade on itunes on a mac so and I even paid for it so it was legal.
