What should I expect to see during BT's 10 day stabilisation period?

For a new broadband connection BT require a 10 day "stabilisation period"; what happens during this time and what can I expect to see as the end consumer (specifically will this just be a varying connection speed or is it reasonable to expect that the service will disconnect for a few seconds every 5-15 minutes)?
